About This Spot

Arriving at Taqueria El Palomino, you immediately sense the rhythm of a humble neighborhood gem where every visit feels familiar and welcoming. The modest walk-up and drive-thru setup may seem unassuming, but it invites a steady flow of locals who return time and again, drawn by the comforting atmosphere and the unmistakable scents of traditional Mexican flavors wafting through the air. There’s an easygoing energy here—nothing rushed, just the quiet hum of a place where food is crafted with care and shared with warmth.

The pace is friendly and personal, reflective of the small family-owned spirit that has kept this spot a favorite in Decatur for years. Conversations at the ordering window carry that subtle blend of casual greetings and genuine connection, reminding you that this is a place rooted in community as much as cuisine. Whether you’re here early to grab a hearty breakfast burrito to start your day or dropping by later for tacos topped with perfectly seasoned grilled steak or al pastor, the mood encourages savoring both the food and the simple human moments that come along with it.

Each hand-formed gordita or freshly grilled taco feels like an invitation to discover layers of authentic flavors—bright, smoky, and deeply comforting. You might find yourself lingering on the complexity of the chorizo or the satisfying chew of the sopes, each bite a testament to recipes that have traveled across generations without losing their soul. The menu flows naturally with the daily rhythm—breakfast burritos that ease you in, vibrant taco salads for a light midday meal, and plates of grilled chicken or steak that settle like familiar old friends at the table.

What stands out beyond the food is the attentiveness of the team—friendly faces who recognize regular visitors and welcome newcomers with equal warmth. The atmosphere is unpretentious but rich with that subtle feeling of being part of something enduring, where tradition and community quietly intertwine. In a landscape filled with transient spots, Taqueria El Palomino offers a grounded sense of place—a dependable taste of home that’s easy to come back to, time after time.

The food is truly authentic Mexican food. Not only is it authentic, but it is also delicious. This was a favorite of mine when i lived in the area. We always go out of our way to stop here on our 8 hour trips to visit family. This is a small family owned business that has been here for many years. The family all have great customer service skills and are very professional. Everything is good! Be sure to mention how you want your tacos dressed though, they have Mexican street style and American style.

This review is in reference to the El Palomino food truck that’s located on Danville Park Drive, SW. The customer service was great! I didn’t have cash on hand so I had to use Apple Pay and the gentleman from the back explained kindly to me that there’s a fee for debit/ credit card transactions because my total was a little bit more than what was previously told to me. It wasn’t a problem for me at all! All of the employees were kind and very friendly. They’re open Tuesday - Sunday (11 am - 8 pm). Please stop by and get some of the great food they have! The horchata was delicious as well as the grilled chicken meal that I ordered. I’ve eaten at the main location on 6th Avenue many times before and I’ve never had any problems. You won’t regret it!

This walk up/drive thru was everything I hoped it would be. I recently started a new job in town and asked a friend who knows how I feel about tacos where I should go. She didn't steer me wrong. The food is delicious, and the staff is friendly. This will be the place I go to satisfy my weekly taco craving.

Gave it 5 stars for atmosphere. But that's not why you go. Some of the best tacos in Decatur.
